DevOps Engineer is a very broad term and mean different things for different people. Some even thinks there is no such thing as a DevOps Engineer since DevOps is more a way of working than a job title.

But we need job titles and DevOps Engineer is one catch-all title that can mean a lot. When I worked as a DevOps Engineer for example I only worked with CI/CD pipelines SLDC.

Before that I worked with application servers, Linux and databases and my title was Systems Engineer.

Now I work with Kubernetes, Docker and Infrastructure as Code and my title is Site Reliability Engineer. I got friends in similar jobs that are either Platform Engineers or Cloud Automation Engineers.

So many topics, so many different titles, but for me DevOps will always be a way of working and a culture, and DevOps Engineer is a job title most suitable in job applications.
