During my 21 years working in the software industry I have met many people coming from non technical backgrounds like business economics, librarians, logistics, academics and even a former postman and a timber salesman. One woman I worked with, who was a very competent Oracle Forms and Reports developer initially starter her career as replacing paper in the copy machine.

One thing they all have had in common though is a strong logical sense, and a thirst for learning new skills.
